Father runs over son in parking lot of South Bend's Castle Point

SOUTH BEND — The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team is investigating the death of a 5-year-old boy who died on Sunday after reportedly being struck by a car driven by his father in a parking lot at Castle Point Apartments.

Jeremiah Holmes was injured and pronounced dead at a local hospital Sunday night. His father, Christopher Holmes, 28, of South Bend, was cooperating with St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team investigators, officials said.

County police officers were called to the 100 block of Royal Arms Drive in the Castle Point complex about 10:30 p.m. Sunday for an unknown problem with a 5-year-old child, who was not breathing. Officers discovered that the child's father had accidentally run over him in the parking lot of Castle Point's playground, according to a news release from the St. Joseph County Police Department.

The crash remains under investigation by FACT.
